The first concert of our 2019-20 season. Last Night of the Proms is always a favourite and we were delighted to welcome back Poulton People’s Choir to sing with us again.

We were delighted to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress of Wyre, Ann turner and Andrea Kay, to our Last Night of the Proms Concert. Seen here with Helen Harrison (MD of BSO) and Tony Brindle-Wills (Director of Poulton People's Choir).

Here's what the audience and performers said about the concert

  • Just back from a sensational concert given by our Blackpool Symphony Orchestra. Fabulous Eroica Symphony, especially the first movement; one of my favourite pieces the 3rd movemnt of Shostakovich 5 ...; tremendous rendition of Finlandia and a piece I'd never heard of, but which deserves to be better known Malcolm Arnold's Peterloo... BSO percussion were out of this world.

  • Really enjoyed the concert tonight. Exceptional. The pre-concert talk was great too.

  • It was fabulous! Very difficult pieces wonderfully played.

  • One of the most amazing concerts I've ever had the priviledge to be part of

We continued our season on 23 November 2019 with our ‘People and Protest’ Concert. In this concert we explored how composers have expressed their views about current and historical events within their work.

The evening started with a pre-concert talk which was a great success with over 60 members of the audience attending in addition to some of the orchestral players.

The programme included Arnold’s Peterloo Overture to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Peterloo Massacre.

We were delighted that Penny Arnold, Malcolm Arnold's niece, saw the concert advertised in the Malcolm Arnold Society magazine a couple  and came to listen. It was a pleasure to meet her.

Penny said "I have never heard or seen Blackpool Symphony Orchestra before or indeed been in the presence of a female conductor - who was amazing!!"

Cancelled due to COVID-19

Our Spring Concert on 28 March 2020 was due to take us to Lytham St Annes where we would have been performing Elgar’s Music Makers with Lytham St Annes Choral Society and AKS Chamber Choir.

The tickets had sold out and we had hope we would be able to reschedule it. However, this wasn't possible. Ticket holders should have received an email. Please contact us if you haven't received this and would like a refund.

Thank you to everyone who has donated some or all of the ticket refund towards our costs. It is really appreciated.

Our final concert for this season was due to be on 4 July 2020 back at Hodgson Academy with a performance of Hummel’s Bassoon Concerto by our principal bassoonist, Russell Irwin. This concert also had to be cancelled due to COVID 19 but the programme will be rescheduled at a future date.
